National Day in UAE is a public holiday and is known as one of the most prominent occurrences in the list of Holidays 2025. ’Al-Eid Al Watani’ is another name attributed to this special day in the list holidays and 2nd of December is the date on which it is celebrated. As per the history of National Day in UAE, this prominent festival in the list of holidays marks the United Arab Emirate’s formal act of nationalisation from the British Protectorate Treaties because of the termination of a British treaty on 2nd of December in the year 1971. What followed was the eventual and final federal unification of seven sheikhdoms situated in the former Trucial States ever since 1971 and the modern-day country came into existence. Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan became the first president of the federation.

The story of National Day 2025 in UAE also coincides with how the flag of UAE came into existence. Apparently, it was adopted on 2nd of December in the year 1971 and hoisted by the first ever president so as to make the formal declaration that UAE is an independent country.

A young Emirati named Abdullah Mohammed Al Maainah comes to be known as the designer of the flag. He entered a competition so as to create/design the new flag. Amongst all the other 1000 entries, his flag was chosen.

A total of three equal and horizontal bands of white, green and black are respectively drawn from the top downwards in the flag and the vertical strip red in colour is next to the mast. These four colours are supposed to signify the Arabian unity and this was inspired by an Arabic poem penned down by Safiul Din Al Holi. The poet in this poem talks about certain tough and historical battles of the land which serves as a great source of inspiration, not only for the current but upcoming generations too.
