Celebrations on Independence Day in Afghanistan are marked with official military displays and speeches by important political figures in the capital of Kabul. On this marvellous day, “Jeshn” is carried out, which is the concept initiated by Afghans regarding national celebrations. Usually, Jeshn is carried out not on 19 August but on the first day of Sonbola, which is regarded as one of the months in the Hejrah-e-Shamsi Islamic Calendar. Therefore, the period of observance usually falls at August-end when the weather is considered favourable for outdoor celebrations.
