Afghan Victory Day History
Afghan Victory Day History holds high significance both politically and culturally and highlights the reason behind its observance. It all started when the Marxist People’s Democratic Party of Afghanistan came into power after the end of the monarchy, and aimed at making Afghanistan a communist nation. This mindset did not fit in with the people of Afghanistan, especially Afghans living in rural areas since they felt that the ruling government is too un-Islamic.
Simultaneously, with the ongoing Cold War, USSR supported the change. In contrast, the US Forces were supporting Mujahideen Resistance, thereby giving rise to a deadly Civil War that took the lives of over 1 million people, left the country in ruins and led to the birth of Al-Qaeda. This is why Afghan Victory Day marks the end of one of the worst political conflicts ever faced by the country.
