Ahmad Shah Massoud: The Hero Of The Nation
Ahmad Shah Massoud was known to be a powerful Politician, Guerilla Commander and Military Leader of Afghanistan, who played a major role during the period of resistance between 1979-1989 against Soviet occupation and Taliban. After he was assassinated on September 09 in the year 2001 by two suicide bombers who faked their identities as journalists, he was posthumously awarded by the title “National Hero”. The day he was martyred is now observed as the Martyrs and Massoud Day in Afghanistan. He is called as “Amer Sāhib-e Shahīd (آمر صاحب شهید)”, meaning "(Our) Martyred Commander”.
Every year on this day, politicians, government officials and former Jihadi officials lay a wreath of flowers at the Minaret of Resistance located in Massoud Square in Kabul.
