Eid al-Qurban Celebrations in Afghanistan
One of the main customs followed on the day of Eid al-Qurban in Afghanistan is Qurbani or Sacrifice. Qurbani is an act of willingness performed by Ibrahim when Allah asked him to sacrifice the one thing that was dear to him. Hearing this, Ibrahim didn’t hesitate once to sacrifice his own son. In order to honour him, people perform the act of Qurbani by sacrificing a goat. At the end of this ceremony, Muslims are obligated to divide the meat into three equal parts, with one part for the poor and needy, second for relatives and friends and the last one for the family. This act highlights the sense of kindness, unity and devotion. On this occasion, people come together, pray to the Almighty and be a part of the communal feast. After this, everyone embraces each other, exchange gifts and wish each other by saying “Eid Mubarak”
